!Help for !HDSMerger 0.22 (29 September 1994) - By Tim Gladding, ⌐ 1994.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hard Drive Samples Merger - an application to merge two or more sound
samples into one large file for play back by this applications older
cousin, Hard Drive Samples (the player).
Hard Drive Samples Merger only functions with RISC OS 3.10 or later.
If enough people ask for a RISC OS 2 version then I'll do it. I've had no
chance to try this application with a Risc PC and RISC OS 3.5, so if
anybody gets the chance - let me know! I should think it will work...
Throughout this document this application, Hard Drive Samples Merger, may
be referred to as 'the merger' where appropriate.
Using Hard Drive Samples Merger - A quick start guide for new users.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The most simple way to use the merger is to locate its filer icon and
double-click on it. Open the main merger window by clicking SELECT on
the merger's iconbar icon. Locate a directory display where you want to
store the merged samples in, and drag the sample icon in to that display.
Now, locate your sound samples (file type &D3C - in Armadeus format) and
drag them, in the order you want them to be merged, on to the lower half
of the merger's window. The hourglass will be displayed while data is
transferred from your source sample to the destination sample. While data
is being read the hourglass will turn GREEN, also when data is being
written the hourglass will turn RED. The hourglass will return to its
normal colours when the transfer is complete (nice touch eh?!).
Keep repeating the above process until you have merged all the required
samples together. When this happens, click on the 'Finished' icon. The
destination file will be closed and ready to use. The merger will now be
back in the state it started in and can merge further samples if you like.
NOTE: If you merge samples of different sample rates you will find that
some of the samples will be played incorrectly when merged. This is
because the merger will create the output sample using the sample rate
found within the first sample to be merged. It is up to the user to
make sure that all the samples being merged are of the same rate.
The version of the merger that is supplied with the registered
package of the Hard Drive Samples player will have an option to
specify the sample rate of the output sample.
This version of the merger has no interactive !Help as standard. I don't
believe anybody would use it, or even need it. For completeness sake,
interactive !Help will be added in versions supplied as part of the
Hard Drive Sample player package (see 'Hard Drive Samples player package').
Future versions of the merger will be able to accept a log, generated by
some kind of long sample splitter, to enable it to re-create samples split
across several floppies, with little or no user intervention.
Quitting Hard Drive Samples Merger
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Open the merger's menu in the usual way from its window or iconbar icon, and
select Quit. If the merger is waiting for samples to add to an already
open file, the destination file will be closed with the samples already
added intact. If the output file is empty, it will be deleted.
Hard Drive Samples player package
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This application, Hard Drive Samples Merger, is part of the Hard Drive
Samples Player package. No updates, except bug fixes, will be available
to the merger unless you register to Hard Drive Samples. This version of
the merger has been made freely available to all users at no cost.
Hard Drive Samples (the player) is a nifty, funky application to play back
your sound samples directly from your hard drive (or what ever!) using a
small amount of memory with a nice wimp desktop interface including a play
back status window and controls over the sound system.
** It doesn't play back any kind of sound tracker tunes! (oh, joy!) **
For more information, contact me at the address below.
Some BBS systems are known to run on 0898-style premium rate phone numbers.
This application must NOT, under no circumstances, ever be uploaded onto
such a system anywhere. However, this unregistered version of the merger
may be uploaded onto BBS systems running on standard rate phone numbers.
This application may not be included within or as part of any commercial
package as an 'extra' under any circumstances without my ABSOLUTE WRITTEN
PERMISSION. Special versions can be made up as required.
